For many of us, having a healthy life style meansgetting regular exercise and a balanced and nutritious diet. Every day spent without caving into temptation is considered a great victory. But there is a special time, when all the rules go out the window, and people forget about healthy living or their convictions and indulge in eating, drinking and not exercising without thinking about the consequences that might surface! That special time is well known, under the name of VACATION.
These brief periods are usually filled with an abundance of food, lack of interest for nutritional behavior and are often ended with the realization that in this short amount of time, a number of pounds have somehow packed on. And from this moment on, the battle to shed these pounds starts and can often be harder than expected. In order to avoid the ordeals suffered when dealing with consequences, be smart with you vacations and know that you can still have your cake and eat it too.
A balanced nutrition means knowing how to make the right choices not matter where you find yourself. This does not mean you are expected to refrain from experiencing foods form different cultures, everything is allowed when keeping in mind portion control and moderation. There are a few tips that can help you balance out your meals even when faced with temptation:
When in vacation, take advantage of the fact that you are surrounded by the people closest to you, and try to take your time at the dinner table. Engage in conversation, this will give you some time in between bites and can help you avoid overeating. Taking your time with food can also help you experience what you are eating, giving you the opportunity to pamper your taste buds.
If you find yourself at the seaside take advantage of the various types of fresh fish that are available. Fish is a healthy and nutrient packed option, that provides your body with important nutrients. Its light texture helps fill you up without feeling bloated of like you had to much to eat. Be adventurous and try new things, that you normally wouldn’t t have access to at home.
Eating healthy wile traveling is difficult, especially in the summer when the heat gets the best of us. Because it is so hot outside, you can skip the heavy lunch. Eat instead a sandwich with some fresh vegetables, or a green salad with some delicious and refreshing fruits. The only time you can satisfy you culinary curiosity is breakfast. The calories you consume during breakfast are probably going to be consumed during the day.
If you want to satisfy you sweet tooth go for ice cream. Ice cream is summers most loved dessert. The combination between sugar, milk, nuts and fruit could actually provide some nutrients such as calcium, vitamins, minerals, protein, and even fiber, making it a good option for weight management as well as satisfying your sweet tooth. The key is to keep your portions very small, bring your comfortable shoes and keep moving during your vacation.
